i bought this as a 7th birthday present for my son and we’re both enjoying it very much! it is easy to set up[there are quick start instructions]runs very smoothly ,has head and tail lights and comes with enough track for a decent size loop and a siding with buffers, although we’ll probably add to it sooner than later. overall i would recommend this product-enjoy!

Very impressed with delivery time of product, was bought as a Xmas present and was cheapest price compared with other sellers. Overall, train set lives up to what Hornby say it does. Now need to make track bigger for other trains

Hornby Virgin Trains Pendolino – Digital Train Set
Bought this train as a christmas present, on first time use the connection that supplies power to the track kept coming loose and shorting out, this was rectified by replacing that part but on further use of the the train set we discovered that when there are 4 parts (all that came in the set)of the train on the track it kept de-railing!! Not that impressed as we had one very unhappy nine year old as the train set was eventually sent back and we now have a less high tech one that works perfectly.

My six year old is totally smitten, but I’m the one who had to ‘modify’ the broken train and fix all the derailments!
In my particular case I think the package had had a bumpy ride; the internal weight in the motorised engine car was lose and the dummy engine car’s lights have only worked occasionally. I don’t know if this points to damage to the DCC chip in the engine but if the motorised engine is pointing clockwise then it inists on going at full speed and ignores all instruction from the controller. The only clue in the manual is about the UK convention of engines facing left(!?!??!!).
Carefully taping a 5p coin to the centre-most bogie on each engine car, plus a couple taped to the internal weight stopped the centre-most bogies derailing under normal circumstances.
I accept that Hornby trains are fiddly to mount on the track and that running of carpet is not ideal (better to tack the track to hardboard). However, judging this as a childs Toy rather an adult’s model it’s a bit too painful.
