When I saw this book, my heart sank …. another book about a train doing train like things! Partly I was right. The storyline is not the most dynamic – in fact it is not much more than a couple of kids standing on a bridge with their Dad waiting for a train to pass underneath – BUT the little details make it totally mesmerising. Charlotte Voake builds up the excitement by telling us about railway workers, bunnies on the line, pushbikes propped against the bridge railings ….. and then there are the sounds, when the train passes under the bridge, again when another two come at once and then the screams of excitement from the children. My kids love it …. in fact after only a couple of reads it has become a firm favourite and yet it is only a book about a train doing train like things. Enjoy!

Charlotte Voake has obviously spent many an hour standing on the bridge with her son, waiting for the next choo-choo train. I know how she feels. This story mirrors my sons daily routine so closely it’s scary! If you have a boy (or girl) who has to take Thomas the Tank Engine to bed, or Gordon to the shops, this is the book for you.
