Got this for my Dad as he wants to be a train driver, cause and effect etc, and first ride he stuffs it through a level crossing when the barriers were down and with cars on the track, then straight through the station decapitating the wooden fat controller. I’m telling Mum and Virgin trains!

This has the potential to be a great toy, both my boys have one. the first train is 2 years old and is still going strong. The second is 2 months old and no longer works. Amazon will not replace it or take any other action because it didn’t go wrong within 30 days of receipt, so if you are going to buy it’s worth buying from a retailer with a better policy on return of faulty goods – like john lewis.

My 4 year old son got this on his birthday. He loves it. It is very well made -very durable. Batteries (supplied) seem to last forever. Quite speedy, and pulls a long line of carriages. Having the ability to control and initiate movement of trains adds greatly to the excitement of the Brio system. Highly recommended.

I have had three of these trains. The first time the kids played with it a bit over five months and then it stopped. Replaced all batteries. Took ages to get remember to get another. That died within two weeks – replaced all batteries to no avail (and I know there are two on the front of the train). Was given a replacement from the shop and that has gone in under a week and the kids have played with it twice. This time I’m sending it back to Brio (who are very helpful). A friend has one and that has lasted 6 months on the same batteries. Unlucky? Jinxed? When it works it’s great but keep the receipt!

Got the toy for my disabled son, as hoping to develop cause and effect, and use of remote (with a view to motorised wheelchair use later on). Very much enjoyed, although it struggled to get up the train set hills / over bridges etc. When batteries ran down, my nephew tried to play with it by pushing it along, which has stripped the gears so will only go in reverse now. Good toy but needs to be used with the remote therefore.
